Virginia M. "Ginny" (Donati) Steinberg, of Melrose, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. She was 80. Born on March 9, 1944, in Malden, MA, Ginny was one of three children of the late Emanuel T. and Josephine (Silverio) Donati.
Having graduated from Julie Billiart Central High School in the North End, Ginny cherished the time spent with her family, friends, and building lifelong bonds. She furthered her education at North Shore Community College and Salem State College, achieving her dream of becoming a nurse. Ginny's dedication led her to Tri-City Mental Health in Lynn, where she tirelessly served for over 20 years before embarking on a well-deserved retirement. She was also an active member and past president of a local chapter of SEIU 509 showcasing her unwavering commitment to her profession.
Her compassionate nature and warm demeanor endeared her to all who crossed her path, earning her the title of the family matriarch. Alongside her beloved husband, Jim, Ginny relished their shared moments exploring the world, indulging in bird watching, and creating cherished memories with family. She particularly adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren finding solace in their laughter and joy. Time spent at their home on the Cape was another of Ginny's treasured memories.
A true embodiment of love and care, Ginny's legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the memories she created. She will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew her.
Ginny was the beloved wife of James D. Steinberg with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Paul Steinberg and his wife Paula of Melrose, Kurt Steinberg and his wife Janice of Marshfield, and Michelle Alves and her husband Greg of Lynnfield. Loving sister of Laura McCracken and her husband Don of Melrose, and the late Donald Donati and his surviving wife Kathy of Billerica. Proud grandmother of Justin and his wife Julianne, Tayla, Julia, Jack, Thomas, Nathan, and Lily. She was the loving great-grandmother of Landon, Jason, and William.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to gather in honor of Ginny's life during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Monday, April 8 from 3-5:30pm, where a time of sharing will be held at 5:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Ginny may be made to My Brother's Table, 98 Willow St., Lynn, MA. 01901, or the charity of your choice.
