Wallace R. Creelman

Mr. Wallace R. Creelman , former Turner Construction Company executive died on
Thursday, April 24, 2003 at the age of 88.
Born in Melrose son of the late William C. and Emma M. (McNeish) Creelman. Mr.
Creelman was a graduate of Melrose High School
Class of 1933, Tilton School Class of 1934 and Oxford School of Business
Administration Class of 1938.
During his tenure at Turner, Wally oversaw the
construction of many notable Boston Landmarks.He began his career with Turner in
1940.In 1943 he was drafted into the army and served with the 36th infantry division in
Italy and France.He was wounded twice and received the Purple Heart and two Bronze
Stars.
After the war he returned to work at Turner where he started as timekeeper on jobs
and retired as Vice President and General Manager of the Boston office in 1979.During
his career he oversaw the construction of many buildings in the Boston business,
educational and medical communities.Such buildings included:

New England Life Building,
Original Hancock Building, Liberty Mutual,One Beacon Street,Shawmut Bank Building at One, Federal Street,
First National Bank Building at 100 Federal Street,
Children's Hospital,
Brigham & Women's Hospital,
Harvard University
MIT,
Boston Globe,
Kennedy Library,and the
The National Heritage Museum in Lexington.

A lifelong resident of Melrose, Wally was active in the community.He was
President of the YMCA and served as a Director of Massbank.He loved sports and in
1999 was inducted into the Melrose High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his feats in
baseball and basketball.Wally also served on the Board of the Deaconess Hospital and
was trustee of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Wally's high school sweetheart and wife of 61 years, Hilda (Swett) Creelman, died
in January. Father of Scott H. Creelman and his wife, Joanna of Deerfield, Christine A.
Creelman of Winchester and Carol C. Moriarty and her husbandJohn of Winchester.
Grandfather ofCraig Creelman and his wife Molly of Hanover, NH,William Creelman
and his wife Harley of Charlestown, Elizabeth Creelman of Deerfield,Kate Moriarty,
Claire Moriartyand John Moriarty III all of Winchester.Great grandfather of Edward H.
Creelman of Hanover, NH. Brother of the late Evelyn C. Kimball and Arnold S.
Creelman.
Memorial Service in the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church, 355 Franklin St.
Melrose, Tuesday, April 29 at 1:30 PM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
