Mr. Walter A. Hall, Jr., a resident of West Yarmouth and formerly of Stoneham and Danvers, passed away on August 10, 2012 at EPOCH Senior Healthcare of Brewster.He was 87 years old.
Walter Hall was born on January 18, 1925 in Boston, son of the late Walter A. Hall and Elizabeth W. (Shillady) Hall.He was raised in Everett, graduated from Everett High School and earned an industrial engineering degree from Boston University.Mr. Hall proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II.He was stationed in Europe, the Philippines, and the Pacific where he was among the first battalions preparing for the invasion of Japan.Following his discharge, he served as a sergeant in the Massachusetts National Guard Reserves, 182nd Infantry Regimental Combat Team, E Company, during the Korean War.
He began his long and accomplished professional career as an industrial manager at Massachusetts General Hospital where he established the position of Unit Manager.He worked for a period of time in aerospace and electronics for RCA and Raytheon before beginning his banking career. A former Senior Methods Analyst at State Street Bank, Mr. Hall helped pioneer the Bank Americard which is now MasterCard.He worked for Bay Bank for 19 years, retiring in 1995 as Vice President of Facilities and Administration Services.
Walter was part of the Epoch of Brewster family since the spring of 2009.At first he lived in the Assisted Living side, where he was a vital part of all the activities. He especially enjoyed "Happy Hour Fridays," every musical entertainment, Bingo, singing, and he was always the dancing star. Walter served as the ambassador who visited anyone who needed rehab next door at the rehab center.He was even an advocate for the facility in a sales video.He was so loved in the rehab center, that when he needed to go to the nursing side of the facility, they allowed him to be where he was known and loved at the Cobb Unit.He was there for two years.
Walter was the beloved husband of the late Jeanette (Donath) Hall who passed away on May 5, 2006.Loving stepfather of Stewart A. Franklin and his wife Sherry of W. Yarmouth and Cheryl Bruce and her husband Donald of Columbia, MD.Cherished grandfather of Peter Franklin of Hanover, PA, Steven Franklin of Forney, TX, Michael Bruce of Merrimack, NH, and Stephen Bruce of Columbia, MD.Loving great-grandfather of Zachary, Ryan and Cortney Franklin, and Kaylee and Joshua Bruce.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Walter's life for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, August 13 from 4-8 PM, and again for his Funeral Service celebrated on Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM.Interment with military honors presented by the US Army at Glenwood Cemetery, Everett.Gifts in honor of Walter may be made to the Michael J.
