Warren Schermerhorn
Born in Syracuse, New York on June 5, 1922, Warren was one of three children of the late Earl Schermerhorn and Anna (Van Duesen) Schermerhorn.
Raised and educated in Syracuse, Mr. Schermerhorn served in the United States Army during World War II.Following his honorable discharge, he attended Syracuse University where he majored in journalism.He married Rhoda Hope Churchill on Friday, April 13, 1949 and moved to Melrose to raise their family.
Mr. Schermerhorn was the President of Churchill Corporation of Melrose for many years.He retired in 1999 after working for 45 years to build the business into a leader in the manufacturing of avionics "black box" enclosures. Founded in 1948, the company continues today in its third generation of family ownership.
During his free time, Warren loved gardening, reading and animals.He was a knowledgeable man who read two or three newspapers daily and was always interested in learning about WWII history.He enjoyed family dinners, his pet Labrador retriever, and visiting his lakefront cottage in New Hampshire during the summer.Warren will be lovingly remembered as a quiet man who was always willing to help.
He was the beloved husband of Rhoda H. (Churchill) Schermerhorn with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Devoted father of Rhonda H. Keenom and her husband Joseph of Melrose and Marshall W. Schermerhorn and his wife Ann of Boxford.Dear brother of Hope Woeger and her husband Werner of Syracuse, NY and Jane Smith and her late husband David of Clifton Park, NY.Cherished grandfather of Hope Keenom-Doran and her husband Daniel of N. Andover, Neil Keenom of Peabody, and Rachel Schermerhorn and Eric Schermerhorn both of Boxford.Also survived by one great grandson, Nathan, and several nieces and nephews.
