Mr. Wesley E. "Wes" Planta, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on the morning of Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Atrium Assisted Living Center in Danvers.He was 87 years old.
Mr. Planta was born on December 18, 1921 in Winchester, the son of the late Edwin A. Planta and Marietta Frances (Tobin) Planta.
Wesley was raised in Malden and graduated from Malden High School in 1940.He received his Bachelor's degree from Northeastern University and began his 62-year career as a Wholesale Fur Salesman.He worked for 3 companies: Ross Furs, Inc., Furs By Wesley, and I.J. Fox.A longtime member of the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church, Mr. Planta served on the Board of Deacons.He proudly served in the US Army during WWII and was a member of the American Legion and the Kiwanis Club in Melrose.
Wesley wasthe beloved husband of the late Alice (Watson) Planta with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.Devoted father of Dona-Kay Carr and her husband, Donald P. Carr, Jr..Dear brother of the late Phyllis M. Brown and Janice A. Johnstone.Cherished grandfather of Donald P. Carr, III and Brian W. Carr.Also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
