William Simpson

William Simpson, 91 a long-time resident of Melrose, died Wednesday morning, May 25, 2005 at the Harborside Healthcare Center in Saugus. Mr. Simpson was born June 19, 1913 in Edinborough, Scotland, son of the late William T. S. and Sarah R. (Hughes) Simpson. Mr. Simpson was raised and educated in Scotland until the age of 16 when he came to Boston. He served in the United States Army during WW II with the Yankee Division, 101st Field Artillery as a Gunner Sergeant and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He served four years under General George Patten. He was then transferred into the Army of Occupation, 231st Armored Field Artillery unit and served two years in Czechoslovakia. He had worked for John Hancock Insurance for 40 years as an administrator. Bill was married for 35 years to the late Mary (Gillespie) Simpson.He was the brother of Mary Stahle and her late husband Ralph and Marion McDermod and her husband, Richard, all of Melrose and the late Sarah Hennigar and Margaret Simpson. Bill was the uncle of Allan F. Stahle and his wife Judy of Bradenton, FL, and Douglas McDermod and his wife Jerry and Rick McDermod and his wife Laurie all of Wakefield. Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE Friday May 27 at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody, MA. Arrangements by Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St. Melrose, MA.
