Mr. William H. Woolley, a resident of Wakefield and formerly longtime of Melrose, passed away at home on Monday, September 3, 2018 at age 88.
William was born in Melrose on May 28, 1930, one of three children of the late George W. and Margaret (Morrison) Woolley. Raised in Melrose, Bill graduated from Melrose High School. In the late 1940's, he starred on an undefeated Melrose High Football team as a lineman. After graduation, Bill enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean War. He proudly served his country as a Navy Seaman and received an honorable discharge in 1953. Strong and athletic, Bill made deliveries for Eagle Graphics in Boston into his 70's.
Bill was a sociable, personable man with a love for Boston sports and the race track. For many years, he visited the track a couple of days a week where he made many longtime friends. He loved animals, and recently developed a special relationship as an "uncle" to his favorite cat, Sylvester. Bill will be remembered for his strength, both in stature and beliefs. He will be missed.
Bill was the loving brother of the late Phyllis M. Cardello and Wayne G. Woolley. Dear uncle of Karen Kelley and her husband Philip of Kittery Point, ME, and Margaret Cardello and her spouse Deborah Ervin of Milford. Great uncle of Kate Kelley of Portland, ME and William Kelley of Kittery Point, ME.
Relatives & friends will gather in honor of Bill's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, Sept. 10 from 10-11am, followed by his Funeral Service at 11am. Interment with US Navy honors at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
