Windsor S. Carpenter

Mr. Windsor S. Carpenter of Winchester died September 10, 2003 of heart failure. Mr. Carpenter was a native of Melrose, MA and after serving in WWII he and his wife, Emilie (Pepper) Carpenter, also a Melrose native made their home in Winchester, MA for 53 years. In 1938, shortly after graduating from Boston University College of Business Administration, he became a U. S. Army reserve officer with the 43rd Infantry Division.
While overseas with the regiment for thirty-seven months, he served as a Battalion Headquarters Company Commander and Staff Officer in the campaigns in the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, and Luzon, P.I. plus the early Japan Occupation.
During the Korean War he served as a Regimental Adjutant in the 9th Infantry Division at Fort Dix, NJ. His awards included the Combat Infantryman Badge, a Bronze star medal for heroic achievement, Bronze arrowhead, Asiatic Pacific Theatre medal with four Battle Stars and Philippine Liberation Medal and Star. After his military service, Mr. Carpenter's business career included service in the Mortgage and Real Estate department with the Prudential Insurance Company.
In 1983 he was a retired Vice President of the Boston real estate firm of Meredith and Grew. He was a Life Member of the Appraisal Institute, and holder of the M.A.I. designation.He also became a member of the Winchester Board of Assessors for 10 years, with 9 years as Chairman. He was a long-time Director of the Winchester Co-Operative Bank serving on the Real Estate Investment Committee.
Mr. Carpenter's hobbies included time spent at his summer cottage at Ipswich and boating and fishing off the ocean waters and in the Ipswich River.
Windsor was the husband of Emilie L. (Pepper) Carpenter.Father of Stephen W. Carpenter of Melrose, Wayne L. Carpenter and his wife Ann P. of Nashua, NH and David M. Carpenter of Salem, NH.Grandfather of Lauren E. Carpenter of Nashua, NH.
Memorial Service in the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St. Melrose, Saturday, Sept. 13 at 11:30 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, MA
