Mrs. Winifred M. "Winnie" (Aubin) Sablock, a longtime Melrose resident passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday morning, February 21, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital.She was 88 years old.

Mrs. Sablock was born on April 4, 1923 in Woonsocket, RI, one of 9 children of the late Wilfred Aubin and Parmelie (Levesque) Aubin.

She was raised in E. Hartford, CT and settled in Melrose with her late husband Edward where they raised their three children.Winifred, more commonly and lovingly known as "Winnie" worked as a legal secretary in Malden for twelve years.A resident of Melrose since 1955, she was a longtime parishioner at Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenwood. She was an accomplished quilter and an avid reader.

Winnie was happiest when laughing and talking with her children and their families.She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, extraordinary mother, and treasured grandmother who showed her family the path of optimism, kindness and love for each other.She will always be remembered and forever missed as the matriarch of four generations of the Sablock family.

Beloved wife of the late Edward F. Sablock with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Peter E. Sablock and his wife Jeanette of York, ME, Janet M. Sullivan and her husband Martin of Taunton, and John J. Sablock and his wife Robin of Stoneham.Dear sister of Jeanette Pardi of Enfield, CT, Vivian Gudauskas of E. Hartford, CT, and the late Irene Lariviere, Gilbert Aubin, Walter Aubin, Aldea St. Germain, Wilfred Aubin, and Henry Aubin.Cherished grandmother of Christian Sablock and his wife Alexis of Stratham, NH, Katherine Currie and her husband Glenn of Ipswich, Stephen Spinosa and his wife Deanna of Wilmington, James Sullivan and his wife Becky of Springfield and Brigitte Daniel and her husband Joshua of Southampton.She is also lovingly survived by 9 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her favorite pet, Mineau.


Relatives and friends will honor and remember Winnie by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, February 23 from 4-8 PM and again on Friday morning at 9:00 AM before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.

Gifts in Winnie's memory may be made to the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society, 63 Elm St., Salisbury, MA 01952.
